About Janet Gershen-Siegel

Hi, I’m Janet

Well, hi there. So, here’s all about me, Janet Gershen-Siegel. I am a Boston area Content Manager, Community Manager, Social Media Specialist and Blogger with a cross-functional background in law, publishing, financial services, insurance and voice recognition, making it in the (somewhat) big city.

Yep, I have an eclectic background. I follow what interests me. Still, I can and do make commitments. I’m not a dilletante and I don’t give up when the rubber meets the road.

In addition, I have a Master’s of Science in Interactive Media from Quinnipiac University, where I graduated with a 4.0! Also, I am a HubSpot Certified email marketer. So yes, I know my way around social media.

My Recent Work at Credit Suite

My most recent full-time position was as a freelance content writer and editor for Lexia, an educational technology (edtech) company.

And the one right before that was as the Content Manager for Credit Suite. This is a position where I was a supervisor to a writer. She and I would write or edit most of the content which the company puts out. This included blogs, webinars, white papers, and pretty much anything else we could think of.

I did all the writing at the end, in addition to all the managerial… stuff for my lovely assistant (a phrase that reminds me of magicians. Am I a magician? You make the call, sports fans).

Content calendar? Check. Guide updating? Check. Video script writing? Check. yet again. Oh, and checks on content auditing, content strategy, case study interviewing, and writing to SEO.

My writing has been on Entrepreneur, Businessing, Business.com, and FedSmith. Oh, and Bartleby, too! My specialties are the law, crowdfunding, and bank credit. But I write about other stuff as well. Lots and lots of other stuff!

Janet Gershen-Siegel, Business Credit Quote Source

Plus I, Janet, am a source for business credit quotes these days. Just Google my name. Seriously. I’ve been on Yahoo! Finance. And my quotes have been on Fundera. Oh, and even one for US News!

Egad, how odd. Seriously, when they first hired me, I didn’t know shinola about business credit.

And I Have Quotes Out There For Other Stuff, Too!

Yeah, really! I guess this is what happens when you review a lot of stuff for Google. And also when you comment on law, society, and politics vis a vis science fiction fandoms. I have a quote for Zagat! And I have one for ScienceFiction.com. Pretty wacky, eh?

A Bit About My Background

Furthermore, I have performed SEO tasks for MadLab and its web properties, including NursingJobs.US and Nurse Recruiter. And this included blogging and customer relations management. I have done freelance blogging and landing page writing via UpWork.

Plus I used to be the Director of Social Media and Public Relations for the hardware development startup company Neuron Robotics, LLC and for the energy saving company Home Energies Remedies, too.

And I have been the Project Manager/Chief Admin for able2know.org, working as a Community Manager since before it existed as a job title.

Janet Gershen-Siegel, Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger

In addition, I have blogged for several sites, and pride myself on being able to blog about nearly any topic, given enough on-point research. And if there is no research, then I am happy to do it!

This has meant blogging on everything from parking lot striping to federal law. Yeah, I was kind of a hired gun writer. But that’s also how I got my job at Credit Suite! So it’s all good.

Furthermore, at one point in time, I was an avid podcaster! My first break was on the G & T Show, where we discussed science fiction, and Star Trek in particular. And I even once had my own show with my friend Shanna, Semantic Shenanigans. And it was where we covered the intersection points among law, society, scholarship, and fandom. We had a lot of fun so come and please check out our YouTube videos!

My Work Experience

Furthermore, my resume is online, of course. And, of course, please feel free to connect to me on LinkedIn. I will not turn you away. Just look up Janet Gershen-Siegel. I guarantee I’m the only one.

I have worked as a lawyer (I specialized in insurance defense litigation, mainly in product liability and construction matters, but I also handled my share of trips and falls, car accidents, and dog bite cases), and as a data analyst for a large financial services corporation. Plus I was a subject matter expert for legal, and a legal auditor for a voice recognition software developing company.

… and a whole host of other things. I can practically guarantee that I have the oddest resume that you are ever going to see. If it bothers you that my career didn’t really go in a straight line, then it’s been nice chatting with you. Because I have gone where the work and my own curiosity have always taken me.

This is not my first blogging rodeo. I love to write and am plugged into social media. You can find me everywhere from Pinterest to Tumblr to Instagram to Bluesky and beyond.

I have a TikTok account but have done virtually nothing with it. Yet.

Of all of my work experiences, I tend to like writing the best.

About My Fiction Writing Experience: Janet Gershen-Siegel, the Author

I am a published author and yes, I have an Amazon page. Of course I do! My main focus tends to be science fiction. But I love it not only because I like new worlds. I also love science fiction because I think you can fit anything into it. So it can contain romance, horror, fantasy, social commentary, and more. I’ve even married it to historical fiction.

But how does science fiction writing inform my work? I would have to say, it helps to know how to create a storyline out of thin air.

My participation in NaNoWriMo had also helped, as I can be a very fast (and wordy) writer when I need to be. But I am distancing myself from them now.

By the first quarter of 2024, I had one published novel, a few short stories in seven other anthology books, and I had short stories (often flash fiction) included in four (maybe it’s five by now) online zines.

Fiction writing also means I am always thinking up new ideas. To me, it’s important to keep the juices flowing. You have got to create, and continue to create. Otherwise, it starts to rust. And that’s no good.
